Joni Banks

Certified Bra Fitter

The idea to start Benefittings came to me a few years ago after my sister began a journey that started with a breast cancer diagnosis in March of 2011. I didn’t know it would be called Benefittings and I didn’t know how or when it was going to happen. But I knew that it was going to happen. I was not only inspired by my sister’s experiences, but also, I was inspired by my mom. My mom used to send me daily inspirational quotes. And one day one hit home so clearly that I knew. I knew it was time to start pursuing this dream seriously so that I could help women like my sister. I have told people I come from a long line of cancer diagnosis. All four of my grandparents, both of my parents, and my only sibling have all been in the doctor’s office on the receiving end of that word, Cancer. “You have cancer”. Their lives were forever changed by that phrase. But it was my sister’s diagnosis, as I sat in that doctor’s office with her that day as we received confirmation of what we had already suspected. It was my sister’s journey with cancer that seemed to have the greatest affect on my life. I guess because we were both in our late 30’s at the time and we each have 2 children that are all relatively close in age. I knew it was time to put my heart into something that would really make a difference. Something I felt really passionate about. I was tired from and tired of the corporate world and I needed this as much as I felt it needed me. And so, Benefittings was born.

Benefittings is a certified-fitter of mastectomy bras, swimwear and breast prostheses.  Fittings occur in the Stratford office and bra clinics are held in Huron and Perth counties; “in-home” service is also available as needed.  We’re dedicated to providing each client with a comfortable, private experience with the sensitivity and compassion they deserve.

Frequently Asked Questions

Click on each question to reveal answer

Q: When should I first meet with a certified fitter?

A: A great time for us to meet for the first time is prior to your surgery if possible. This will give us an opportunity to become acquainted with one another. We can take some pre-surgery baseline measurements of your affected arm (the side of your breast surgery).

Q: How long after a mastectomy can I be fitted for my breast form?

A: It’s recommended that you wait until the swelling is gone and you are healed. This is usually anywhere from 4-8 weeks depending on the individual.

Q: Why should I wear a breast form? Can’t I just go without?

A: An imbalance to the body occurs when a breast is lost and by not replacing the weight of the lost breast tissue the back, neck and/or shoulder are at risk for pain and alignment problems. Wearing a correctly fit breast form that matches the remaining breast in size and shape helps to restore balance to the body for good physical health, and gives your body a natural silhouette for good mental and emotional health. It also aids in avoiding neck, back and shoulder pain.

Q: Any services that provide financial assistance if I can’t afford to buy it myself?

A: Yes! Funds are available through:
Braz for the Cause by accessing the Massel-Cruickshank Breast Cancer Patient Assistance Fund

LRCP Patient Assistance Fund PDF

The Assistive Devices Program (ADP) is funded by the Ministry of Health. The ADP will pay $195 toward a full breast form and $105 for a partial lumpectomy form. You can go to their website to learn more about what they fund. Click here to access the application form

Please note that I keep blank copies of these forms and can assist you with filling them out.

Q: How long does a breast form usually last? Do they come with a warranty?

A: Breast forms have a 2 year manufacturer’s warranty.

Q: Can I wear your products if I haven’t had a mastectomy?

A: Absolutely! Our products are excellent quality and can be worn by anyone!
